What is covered?

Unit 1

The key factors involved in wine production: terroir, viticulture, vinification, aging and bottling

How these key factors influence the main characteristics of the main

  • still wines of the world,
  • sparkling wines of the world,
  • fortified wines of the world.

How to use your knowledge to present the style and quality of a wine

Unit 2

How to taste wine, describe its characteristics and assess its quality, according to the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Wine Tasting®

Examination

  • The Unit 1 exam consists of a closed-book test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions and another consisting of short-answer questions.
  • The evaluation of Unit 2 is based on a blind tasting of two wines. This training is accredited by the UK regulatory body Ofqual.

This course is intended for people wishing to discover a wide range of wines, or for holders of the WSET Level 2 Diploma in Wines.

Training objectives:

Objective 1: Identify the main natural and human factors related to the production of still wines of the world, in the vineyards and the winery, and explain how they affect the style, quality and price of these wines.

Evaluation criteria

1. Identify the main natural factors in the vineyards and explain in detail how they affect the style, quality and price of wine.

2. Identify the main human factors in the vineyard and explain in detail how they affect the style, quality and price of wine.

3. Identify the main human factors in the winery and explain in detail how they affect the style, quality and price of wine.

Objective 2: Identify and describe the characteristics of still wines made in the main wine regions of the world, and explain how the main natural and human factors, in the vineyards and the winery, as well as on the legislative and commercial level, affect the style, quality and price of these wines.

Evaluation criteria

1. Identify and locate the major wine regions of the world and describe the style and quality of still wines produced there.

2. Identify the main factors, in the vineyards and the winery, as well as on the legislative and commercial level, related to the production of still wine, and briefly explain how they affect the style, quality and price of the main wines peace of the world.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
  • This training is aimed at professionals and amateurs who already have a solid knowledge of oenology but who want to progress. It will allow students to deepen their knowledge in an academic way with this diploma so that they can progress to level 4 called Diploma.
  • For professionals, this diploma is an asset for working in the wine and spirits sector: wine cellar, hotel, café, restaurant, wine tourism sector, wine marketing, critic, wine journalist….
  • It validates the acquisition of oenological knowledge at a confirmed level in France and abroad. You will receive a WSET certificate and badge when you pass the exam.
